Neighbourhood Cleanup
We’ve been out of town for a week, so on our return I got on my bike for a quick lunchtime cleanup of the Speed River trail near our house. A lot of debris accumulates in a week on the shore.
After 45 minutes on the trail, I filled up a cleanup pail and whole garbage bag with various finds: a glittering rainbow sticker, construction foam floating on the river, empty coffee cups, fabric from the river, rusty cans, and two very worn sneakers.
The total haul was 5kg of debris in addition to the 11 cans and 14 bottles found along the way and recycled. It’s surprising how much accumulates by the river in one week.
