Friends of the Speed River

You can support our cleanups, even out of the water. We’re a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, but we still have regular expenses, including gear, insurance, and waste drop-offs. As a Friend of the Speed River, you keep our work going, and together we can restore and protect our watershed.

Become a Friend

Give any amount. Every bit helps.

For donations of $25 or more, we’ll list you as a Friend of the Speed River on our website.

For donations of $50 or more, you’ll get a small art box of some of the more colourful finds from our cleanups.

We cannot provide charitable receipts.

Sponsor a Stretch

For a donation of $250-$500 a year, you will sponsor one km stretch of the Speed River.

We clean 12 stretches, and each has a single sponsor. Your name or your business name will be listed on our interactive Speed River map and as a Friend of the Speed River on our website. Every cleanup on your stretch is logged, so you can see what came out of the water you helped clear. Our social media posts will credit you as the sponsor, and you’re welcome to use our logs and photos from your stretch in your own newsletters, social media and signage.

Speed River Stretches

Become a founding sponsor and reserve your stretch of the river. Once a stretch is taken, it’s yours for as long as you renew each year. Pick an available stretch and email info@greatlakecleaners.ca, and we’ll walk you through the details.

See our map for real-time availability.
