Back Home

Our week away on the shore of Lake Huron was great, but it’s good to be back in Guelph cleaning our home waters.

This evening, accompanied by a chorus of migrating birds overhead, I headed to the banks of the Speed River. Recent storms, as they so often do, had carried fresh debris into the water.

Today’s haul: a 20-foot fire hose and three bags of plastic waste, some pulled directly from the water near a new beaver lodge. As I worked along the bank—trying to stay as quiet as possible—the resident beavers slapped their tails loudly on the water before diving out of sight.

It felt great to be back home.
