Water’s Edge

During the weekend cleanup I picked up several bags of garbage from Goldie Mill Park, but more was strewn down the ravine to the waterline, where I couldn’t reach it. On Monday at lunch I biked back to clear the rest.
By the Speed River, not all of the debris had stopped at the water. A blanket lay half-submerged in the shallows, and a garbage bag of packing foam had made it to the middle of the river and caught on a branch. Everything else, from cups to clothing, was on the bank.
I used a sturdy reusable bag discarded nearby to remove one pile at a time, each time climbing back up the ravine with a heavy bag of wet materials.
One thing didn’t fit in a bag: a shopping cart, which will need its own trip and some rope. We’ll be back for it.
