Today’s lunchtime bike ride ended up at a pond I haven’t yet visited. Right at the entrance to the trail that goes through the marsh the city installed a helpful sign: “NO DUMPING … YOU ARE POLLUTING YOUR ENVIRONMENT.” Plastic wrappers and cans lay right next to it.

Further down the trail, a chorus of frogs and more litter.

After picking up 28 cans and bottles, I walked out of the marsh, clanking like the Tin Man.

On our trip up north it was the wildlife that stood out, and it is no different here. The frogs share this pond with whatever gets left on the bank. A few frogs sat in the shallows watching me while I picked up litter. It was a good reminder that cleaning close to home matters.
